TOP EVENTS & DIARY DATES FOR LYNMOUTH, EXMOOR & NORTH DEVON 2017

Along with the beautiful coast and countryside of Devon and Exmoor, there are also great events of all kinds to discover on your next visit. Indeed, from classic cars to West Country cuisine, you will find a surprising array of seasonal gatherings throughout each year. 2017 is no different, with some fantastic events to mark in the diary, whether you want to be fed, enlightened or just thoroughly entertained! So without further ado, here’s our brief guide to what’s on in Lynton & Lynmouth, Exmoor and North Devon this spring and summer:

FOOD, DRINK & CRAFT MARKETS (VARIOUS DATES APRIL TO NOV)

For anyone with a taste for excellent local produce and crafts, one of the area’s authentic food highlights is the calendar of great markets. Catch the Exmoor Market on the second to last Sunday of each month at Lynmouth Manor right through the year from April 23 onwards. Or, for handmade gifts and craft goodies as well as artisan food & drink, pop along to the Lyn Valley Craft & Farmers Market at Lynton Town Hall (EX35 6HW) on the first Saturday of each month.

EXMOOR WALKS, TALKS AND MORE (VARIOUS DATES THROUGHOUT 2017)

Along with craggy scenery and some splendid walks, there is also a lively calendar of events to enjoy on Exmoor this spring, summer and autumn. You could enjoy a taste of traditional crafts with any one of several day classes and workshops; follow a special walking trails delving into wildflowers or hidden history; or perhaps join local experts to find out more about life on Exmoor, whether it’s meeting spring lambs or park rangers. HONEYMEAD FESTIVAL (PARRACOMBE, EXMOOR MAY 5TH 2017)

What could be better than classical music in an idyllic setting, brought to you by world class musicians? The gathering is the brainchild of talented violinist Tamsin Waley-Cohen, who brings a stellar cast to rural Exmoor each year for a mesmerizing performance. This year’s festival includes works by Haydn, Shuman and Schubert, with the Albion Quartet at the strings. Ticket prices also include canapes, while all profits go towards the North Devon Hospice. ROCK, COMEDY AND CARS AT THE LYNMOUTH CLASSIC WEEKEND (9-11 JUNE)

Offering three days of beautiful cars, big sounds and belly laughs, this weekender brings a whole host of fun to the North Devon Coast in June. There will be comedy with a topical feel on the Friday as BBC featured star Dr Phil Hammond brings his “Health Revolution” show to Lynmouth Town Hall. Saturday the 10th welcomes top tribute act “Hats Off to Led Zeppelin” while Sunday sees all manner of awesome cars from Ferraris to vintage classics make their way from Lynton in a grand display. LYNMOUTH RAFT RACE (SATURDAY 22ND JULY)

Combining rafts, fancy dress and ballistic weapons, the fantastic Lynmouth Raft Race makes a wonderfully crazy spectacle ever summer. A whole flotilla of homemade craft take part every year, from the sublime to the ridiculous. Some impress, some don’t quite make the grade; all are subject to a mixture of support along with flour bombs and buckets of water. Who will your money be on this year? It’s anyone’s guess at this brilliant free event, which will entertain visitors of all ages. Starting time is usually around 5pm, to give local rafters time to sure things up and spectators time to arm themselves.
