From family entertainment to festive markets, there’s plenty to look forward to, while you’ll always find a warm welcome and the best local food and drink here at The Rising Run. Here’s a quick guide to what’s on in North Devon over the coming weeks of October and November, from Bonfire Night to the Christmas buildup…
Bringing an extra chill of excitement to Halloween celebrations this year, Lynton will be hosting its own “Night of the Dead”. Offering a slightly more grown up party, this event comes complete with live entertainment, face painting, food and drink. Adding dead good sounds on the evening will be Soul Craft, who playing funk, soul and pop to get your feet moving and create a real carnival atmosphere and a hint of South America besides North Devon. One of North Devon’s unsung qualities is its lack of light pollution, making Exmoor in particular a great location to go star-gazing or night walking. As part of a special series of events for late 2017, the Space Odyssey mobile planetarium will be on tour locally (at Lynton Town Hall on 23rd October, 2pm-8pm, and 24th October at Dulverton Town Hall). Whether you’re looking for finely-crafted gifts, or the pick of delicious local produce, this lively local market is the place to head early each month. It’s also a good place to buy foodie gifts and presents that you won’t find on the high street, while you’ll also often find live entertainment too.

If you have children to entertain, the Halloween period comes with various fun events to appeal to youngsters and families. Indeed, you can take your pick between several of North Devon’s best family attractions. Indeed, Halloween week (12-29/10/2017) sees the arrival of several spooky events. Halloween Hocus Pocus at The Milky Way (Bideford) has a host of fun hand-on activities and competitions. Meanwhile Quince Honey Farm’s Halloween Week and the Big Sheep’s Fun by Day Halloween Festival have stacks of haunted rides, activities and performances. Stick around for Bonfire Night (5th Nov) and you’ll also find further events and firework displays at most of our major attractions too, such as the Big Sheep Bonfire Night Party.
A destination in its own right, there is always something to experience in this pretty North Devon village. A special Apple Day (October 28th) is the time to enjoy the spoils of the recent harvest, whether you try apple-bobbing, crafting or a drop of lovely local cider. Or you could relive this classic seaside destination’s silver-scaled glory days with the Clovelly Herring Festival (18th Nov), which is packed with tasty fish dishes, traditional craft and food stalls, and live entertainment.
